Carmel Redevelopment Commission, Carmel Amphitheater/Village on the Green

Every Saturday morning, the Carmel Farmers Market fills Village on the Green. Every summer evening, the amphitheater draws a crowd. The green sits in the shadow of the Palladium, and it was built to give downtown Carmel a place that belongs to everyone, not just to the people holding tickets.

Making that work took more than a lawn. Power and water run to points all around the green so vendors can set up wherever the market needs them, week after week, without cords and hoses crossing the space. A brick paver drive curves around three sides, carrying the parking that serves the Palladium, the civic theater, and the offices next door. What visitors see is open space and what makes it work is all underneath.
