Geist Waterfront Park

Delivered through a build-operate-transfer partnership, which let Fishers open the park and take ownership of the finished property, Geist Waterfront Park opens 70 acres of reservoir shoreline to the public. With a design that shifts as you move across the park, the west side is the active end, with sensory-based play areas and a nature playscape for younger visitors. The east side stays quiet and natural, with room for walking, biking, hiking, canoeing, and kayaking.

Sustainability embraced: The park was built to belong to its site. Glacial boulders and river cobblestone already on the ground were reused as design elements, and native plantings were re-established along the waterfront in place of turf and hardscape. 

• The active west side and passive east side let families and paddlers use the same park without crowding each other.
• Boulders and river cobble found on site were repurposed into the built park rather than hauled away.
• Green infrastructure captures and treats stormwater on site.
• Native ecosystems were re-established along the shoreline, so the park works as habitat as well as recreation.
