Brownsburg High School Athletics & Senior Academy

Brownsburg, Indiana

With the 297,000-square foot addition to the high school, Brownsburg was able to add a new gymnasium, natatorium, fine arts, media center, fitness and wrestling rooms, multiple classrooms, a new wing and offices.

Senior Academy
The 60,000-square foot facility was the first of its kind in Indiana, designed to help seniors learn in an atmosphere that feels like a college versus high school. The three-story, pre-cast Senior Academy includes study areas, classrooms, labs, a food court and offices.

Gymnasium
With a capacity of 4,300, the 100,000-square foot gymnasium included the main floor with two auxiliary courts behind the second-floor bleachers. The facility also included a suspended track around the perimeter.

Natatorium & Fine Arts Building
The pool is a state-of-the-art natatorium, which included a Myrtha Pool. While a typical pool is constructed of concrete, a Myrtha Pool is a stainless-steel pool that is manufactured overseas. When constructed, the Olympic size pool was the only Myrtha Pool in the state of Indiana. It includes eight lanes, fifty meters in length and holds over 540,000 gallons of water. The deepest part of the pool is 13’6” and at the shallowest point is 4’0”.

Another feature to the addition is the unique design that includes a barrel-vaulted ceiling. The steel frame has a special painting system called a “tnemec” coating. This coating prevents rust on the steel and fights the humidity of a pool environment.

The Fine Art Department was constructed over the original pool. To accomplish this, construction included the demolition of the old pool, in-fill of demo sand and a concrete slab on top. On this two-story project, the Fine Arts Department was located on the second floor. This included art rooms, a computer room lab, spray booth and bathrooms.
